Shazam 2 Director Confirms Filming Has Completed

Filming for Shazam! Fury of the Gods has wrapped up so we should expect to see it in theaters in time for the prospective release date.

David F. Sandberg – the director of the upcoming Shazam! Fury of the Gods movie has confirmed via social media that filming has been wrapped up for the project. The movie is expected to be released in 2023 as things currently stand, and it is the follow up to the original Shazam! movie that was released in 2019. Zachery Levi and Asher Angel will be back once again to play the roles of Shazam and Billy Batson, respectively.

Not much is known about the plot of Shazam! Fury of the Gods at this point in time. The expectation is that the movie will continue many of the plot points set out in the original Shazam! Shazam will be joined by the equally super-powered members of his foster family as they set out to protect the world from supernatural and mystical enemies. Helen Mirren will play the main antagonist in the movie as Hespera and Lucy Liu will play the role of Kalypso. Rachel Zegler, star of West Side story, will also be a member of the cast – although her role in the movie is currently under wraps.

Throughout the production of the movie, fans were treated to many behind the scenes elements of the movie making process for Shazam! Fury of the Gods. To mark the end of the filming project, David F. Sandberg posted a picture on Instagram and confirmed that shooting for the movie has now indeed concluded. The picture can be viewed directly below:

Although we don’t really know much about the storyline of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the image above does potentially contain some clues. We can expect a lot of super-powered destruction in the movie judging by this set photo, as the director appears to be posing in a completely demolished bedroom set. The bedroom in the picture is presumably Billy Batson’s foster home. The destruction could have been caused by an invading villain coming after our heroes, or it could possibly have been caused by one of heroes who haven’t quite got to grips with the extent of their powers. Time will tell what the deal is here!

It will come as a relief to all those involved in the production process that they’ve finally been able to complete filming. The crew for Shazam! Fury of the Gods experienced a large scale shutdown in October 2020 due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Now that filming has been wrapped up, David F. Sandberg and his crew will be hard at work with the post production editing process in order to be able to hopefully bring the movie to theaters by the prospective June 2023 release date.
