Robert Pattinson recently sat down in an interview to discuss the upcoming Batman movie.
Robert Pattinson recently sat down in an interview to talk about his upcoming role as the titular hero in The Batman. The movie will be set in the earlier years of Batman’s journey, and will primarily centre around his hunt for the main antagonist in the movie – the Riddler. As well as Robert Pattinson, the cast will also include Paul Dano who will play the Ridder, John Turturro as Carmine Falconi, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle (Catwoman).
We can trace the original development plans for The Batman all the way back to 2014, where Ben Affleck was initially set to direct and star in the movie as Batman. Affleck later walked away from these duties due to personal issues and was replaced by Matt Reeves as the director of the project. Reeves made the decision to separate the movie from the extended DCEU and create a standalone story (for now at least) for the caped crusader. Robert Pattinson was eventually cast in 2019 and production for The Batman started in 2020. The film is set for release in early 2022.
Robert Pattinson recently spoke with ET Canada about his role in The Batman. Pattinson still appears to be in a state of shock after being cast for the iconic role, and he opened up about some of the challenges he faced during the shooting process. Below is was Pattinson had to say:
"It’s a strange feeling, I had moments when I was shooting when you just caught a glimpse of yourself in a reflection and be like, ‘Am I actually doing this, this is crazy.’ It’s a combination of the suit does a lot of the work for you, but then when you need to do some work you have to really fight it [laughs]. But it’s a very special feeling to put it on though.”
Batman is one of the most popular comic book heroes of all time, and just like Pattinson, many people all over the world would love to don the iconic cape and cowl (I know I would). The suit for the upcoming movie has already been revealed to fans, and the revelation received a polarizing reception to say the least. You have a fair few people that are really excited by the sleek and slimmer design compared to what we saw on Ben Affleck. Others have expressed their discontent at the slim frame the suit projects – however it can be argued that Christian Bale’s Batman wasn’t exactly a behemoth either and he was right on the money with his depiction of the Dark Knight.
Robert Pattinson has previously been very critical of the ever popular Twilight series he starred in, which was arguably the property that shot him into super stardom. It’s been said that he’s even avoided other high profile movie roles as a result of his experiences on Twilight. Therefore, it is refreshing to see that Pattinson is now speaking glowingly of The Batman, arguably his most high profile role to date. No doubt we’re all as excited for The Batman as Robert Pattinson is, but we’ll have to wait until March 2022 to see what the movie brings to the table.
